Tristan Wright

After changing school at the start of year 9, Tristan was introduced to an event called the RACV Energy Breakthrough. This is a 24 hour team event where students build and race a 3 wheel Human Powered Vehicle. Tristan competed in this event for the remainder of his secondary schooling years, in the later years the team was successful in getting top 5 placings as well as being positioned on the front of the starting grid. This event annually attracts thousands of students, teachers, parents and spectators from all over Australia. It was whilst racing at this event that Tristan was approached and recruited by one of Australia's premier and most successful HPV manufacturer and racing teams, Tri-sled. Whilst racing for this team, they have had many successful races, winning the national 24 hour HPV race in 2003 and placing in the top 3 numerous times as well as winning the Wonthaggi24 HPV event overall in 2008. From this Tristan first became interested in the engineering and design behind H.P.V’s and in turn bicycles. Midway through his final year of school Tristan decided that he wanted to follow his passion and study in the field of mechanical engineering and or industrial design. After being accepted into Product Design Engineering at Swinburne, a combination of both fields of interest, Tristan came to the realisation that he could design and build his own HPV as a final year project. Through his involvement with Tri-sled he became aware of SpeedBikes and the incredible speed they are capable of achieving. It was after seeing these incredible machines that Tristan decided that it was indeed a SpeedBike that he wanted to design and build for his final year project.
